Privacy Policy
SimpleCue is built so your speech content stays under your control. This policy describes what the app stores, what optional Apple services can sync, and what this website does not do.
1. Who we are
SimpleCue is developed by GetWieser (“we,” “us”). Contact for privacy questions: help@getwieser.com.
2. Summary
- Your scripts, teleprompter settings, and related app data are stored on your device.
- If you enable iCloud sync in the app, that data can sync through your Apple iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. It does not go to a SimpleCue-operated server.
- We do not require you to create a SimpleCue account.
- We do not sell your data. The app does not show ads and does not include advertising or analytics SDKs.
- Camera access is optional and used only for Practice Mode eye tracking on supported devices. That processing happens on the device.
3. Data stored on your device
Depending on how you use the app, SimpleCue may store on your device:
- Scripts you create, paste, or import (title, content, timestamps, and related metadata).
- Preferences such as font size, colors, reading speed, Timed Scroll settings, cue display options, Practice Mode settings, and similar display controls.
- App state such as onboarding completion and local crash-recovery markers used only to show a local message after an unexpected quit.
This information remains on your device unless you choose to sync with iCloud (section 4), export or share a file yourself, or delete the app.
4. Optional iCloud sync (Apple)
Sync is off by default. If you turn on “Sync scripts with iCloud” and you are signed in to iCloud on the device, SimpleCue uses Apple CloudKit (and related Apple iCloud mechanisms) so scripts and mirrored teleprompter/display settings can stay up to date across your devices on that Apple ID.
- Synced data is held in your iCloud account under Apple’s systems and policies—not on a separate SimpleCue backend.
- Changing the sync setting requires restarting the app so the local store can reconfigure.
- If the same setting is changed on two devices around the same time, the latest change wins; there is no merge screen.
- Debug builds run from Xcode and App Store builds use separate CloudKit databases and do not sync with each other.
- You can manage iCloud for this app in iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud, and you can turn sync off in SimpleCue.
When iCloud sync is enabled, the app may register for remote notifications so Apple CloudKit can wake the app to import changes promptly. These are sync-related notifications for CloudKit, not marketing messages from us.
5. Camera (optional Practice Mode)
If you enable eye tracking in Practice Mode, SimpleCue may use the front camera and on-device face/gaze processing (ARKit on TrueDepth-capable iPhones) to time look-up reminders while you rehearse.
- Camera use is optional. You can deny permission or use timed look-up prompts instead.
- Camera frames are processed on the device for this feature. SimpleCue does not upload camera video or gaze data to a SimpleCue server.
- If camera access is unavailable, Practice Mode can fall back to timed prompts.
6. Files, pasteboard, and printing
Import, export, paste, print, and share actions you start may access content you choose (for example .txt, .md, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, or .html files, or clipboard text). That content is used to update your script on the device or to create a file you save. We do not operate a cloud upload service for those files.
7. Purchases
SimpleCue is sold as a paid app on the Apple App Store. Payment and purchase records are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. The app does not use a separate SimpleCue login or in-app subscription tier.
8. What we do not collect through the app
SimpleCue does not include third-party advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs that send your usage data to us.
Local crash-recovery information (for example that a previous launch may have ended unexpectedly, plus basic version and device OS strings) is stored on the device so the app can show you a local recovery notice. It is not automatically transmitted to us. If you contact support, you may choose to include details you paste or type in your email.
9. This website
This site is static information pages (home, privacy, support). It does not require an account and is not used to collect scripts or app content.
Hosting may be provided by Cloudflare Pages or a similar static host. The host’s infrastructure may process standard technical request data (such as IP address, user agent, and timestamps) as part of delivering the pages, according to that provider’s practices. This website does not load third-party advertising or analytics scripts from us.
10. Children
SimpleCue is a general-audience productivity app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a SimpleCue account or SimpleCue server, because we do not operate such an account system or content server.
11. Your choices
- Leave iCloud sync off to keep scripts and settings only on that device.
- Turn iCloud sync off, delete scripts in the app, or remove the app to delete local app data (subject to iOS backup behavior you control).
- Manage camera and paste permissions in iOS Settings.
- Manage iCloud data for the app in Apple’s iCloud settings, and review Apple’s privacy information for iCloud/CloudKit.
- Email us at help@getwieser.com with privacy questions.
12. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date on this page. Continued use of the app after an update means you should review the revised policy.
